Wareham woman convicted of child rape

Nov 15, 2016

A Wareham woman has been sent to state prison after a jury convicted her of an aggravated child rape charge, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced on Nov. 15.

After a two-day trial in Plymouth Superior Court, a jury deliberated for 90 minutes before finding Valerie Perry, 46, guilty of one count of aggravated statutory rape of a child. Judge Gary Nickerson sentenced Perry to serve a 10-year prison sentence. The district attorney’s office had recommended a sentence of 10-12 years.

In December of 2014, the victim in this case, a boy attending a now defunct, private middle school in Middleoro, reported that he had previously been sexually assaulted by Perry. At the time, she was a volunteer art teacher at the school. Wareham Police initiated an investigation that discovered on multiple occasions, Perry raped or sexually assaulted the victim, once in her home and other times in her vehicle.

Assistant District Attorney Amanda Fowle prosecuted the case, which was investigated by Wareham Police Department.
