Fashion trucks help support 'Toys for Tots'
A slew of fashion trucks parked in front of A.D. Makepeace's Box Mill Hall sold boutique clothing on Sunday and shoppers were encouraged to bring donations for "Toys for Tots."
Justine Bonalewicz, owner of Sass & Sparkle, organized the event to help bring people together before the holidays.
A resident of Rhode Island with family in Wareham, Bonalewicz asked all who attended the event to bring a toy donation.
"I just wanted to bring everyone together and I thought it would be nice to give back to the community, so rather than charging for admission, I reached out to Toys for Tots," she said.
She gathered other fashion trucks -- Glee Gifts, The Chic Shop, Mermaids on Cape Cod, Post & Grove -- through social media for the event.
A large trend in the south, Bonalewicz said she and others are jumping on the trend up north.
"In a world where everyone likes everything right at their fingertips, what's better than having your favorite store pull right up to your driveway?" she said.
Inside of the hall, vendors sold a variety of gifts from jewelry and handmade soaps and scrubs to paint parties and Christmas gifts.
The collection box for toys was overfilled by 1:30 p.m., two and a half hours before the end of the event.
Toys for Tots is hosted by the United States Marine Corps Reserve and aims to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November, and December each year and distribute the toys as Christmas gifts to children in need.
