Car fire on Route 25 stops traffic

An SUV caught fire Tuesday afternoon on Route 25 bringing eastbound traffic to a standstill for approximately 45 minutes.

According to emergency broadcasts, the SUV was engulfed in flames just before 1 p.m. Wareham and Onset firefighters responded to the call, extinguishing the blaze at 1:20 p.m.

Traffic on Route 25 was shut down for almost an hour as crews worked to stop the fire and then clear the highway.

It’s unclear if anyone was injured during the fire.
