John Nelson, 88
John R. “Jack” Nelson, 88, of Wareham died Jan. 7 in the Soldier’s Home, Holyoke. He was the husband of the late Ruth I. (Shaw) Nelson who died in 2003. He was the son of the late George and Esther (Stenberg) Nelson.
He was born in Boston and lived in Braintree and Wareham for many years. He graduated from Braintree High School and the Franklin Institute in Boston.
Mr. Nelson served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1952.
Mr. Nelson owned and operated Franconia Fuel Company in Wareham for many years before retiring.
He enjoyed skiing, sailing, and boating and making model airplanes. He held a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying out of Plymouth Airport.
Survivors include his daughter, Judith G. Davis of West Barnstable; three grandchildren, Greg Spillane of Las Vegas, Nevada, Nathaniel Davis and his wife Donna of Bourne Point, Wareham, and Ria Hill of West Barnstable; two great grandchildren, Bailey and Keegan Spillane of California. He was the brother of the late George Nelson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Visiting hours have been omitted.
