Eleanor Turner, 99, died Feb. 4 just a week short of her 100th birthday. She was the widow of the late Frank H. Turner and the daughter of the late Amos C. and Bertha Roulston. Her sisters Minnie Chambers and Lillian Ray predeceased her.

Eleanor was born in Boston and lived there for many years before moving to Wareham in the 1970s. She lived for several years in Wareham and then at Bourne Oaks in Bourne for 31 years. She served as a past president of the Wareham Emblem Club.

For more than seven years prior to her death, she received excellent care at the Center for Extended Care in Amherst.

Eleanor ran a cake decorating business from her home for many years and also taught cake decorating. She crocheted numerous afghans and lap robes that she donated to seniors in nursing homes in the Wareham area. At the Center for Extended Care, she could usually be found at her corner table in the recreation room, where she passed her time coloring. Eleanor was a happy person who loved to laugh and always enjoyed eating chocolate.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Natale and spouse Bonnie Caldwell of Easthampton; her son, Robert Turner and wife Carol Heinz Turner of Carver. Her sons, Franklin Turner of Coquile, Oregon, and Earl Turner of Bridgewater, predeceased her, leaving their widows, both named Carol Turner—one of Coquile and the other of Bridgewater. Eleanor’s other surviving relatives include her niece, Meredith Ray of Colorado, plus seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Eleanor’s family would like to thank the staff at the Center for Extended Care for their kindness and support during her residency there. We also extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of the Cooley Dickinson Hospice for their compassionate and dedicated care during the final month of her life.

Her funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Visiting hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, at the funeral home.
