Take the second star to the right, and straight on till morning.

Follow the directions, and you might find yourself in Neverland. Those of us less inclined to celestial travel are in luck though - Wareham Middle School’s Drama Club is bringing Neverland closer to home. Their production of “Peter Pan” will run on March 29 at the Wareham Middle School auditorium.

The Drama Club is made up of students, staff, and parent volunteers. Every year, according to Makayla Semiao, who plays John Darling, the Drama Club votes on which production to put on. Last year, they chose to stage “Annie.” This year’s vote was torn between “Into the Woods” and “Peter Pan,” but according to the students, the latter won in a landslide.

“It’s a classic story, and everyone knows it,” explains Abby Wiksten, the play’s Tinkerbell. “There are a lot of roles for people, and a lot of songs.”

Semiao says that working on the play is a chance for all of the students in Drama Club to come together and strike a balance between practice and hanging out with friends. “We’re like a family,” she says as she calls over her brother in the play, Michael (played by Julia Bottino).

The Drama Club has been rehearsing the play since November of last year. Plenty of madcap entertainment is in store, from Captain Hook’s fear of a ticking crocodile, to Tinkerbell’s petulant jealousy, to the rescue of Tiger Lily and the kidnapping of John, Wendy, Michael and the Lost Boys.

Don’t expect Peter and the little Darlings to stay on stage; they’ll be soaring through the audience, which should also be ready for pirates, mermaids, and maybe even a crocodile to pass close by. If they’re lucky (and think happy thoughts, say of mermaid lagoons and pirate caves) they might even receive a sprinkle of Tinkerbell’s fairy dust.

The play will be performed at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, in the Wareham Middle School Auditorium. Tickets are $5 per ticket. To reserve tickets, email kbergamini@wareham.k12.ma.us.
