Wareham Little League celebrates Opening Day
Opening Day for the pint-sized athletes of the Wareham Little League started with a parade to the ballfields off Charge Pond Road and ended with plenty of competition between the teams.
Little League President Quirino doCanto welcomed parents and players during a brief ceremony before the games. He introduced all of the teams to the players’ families who cheered as they were called.
This year, the league has approximately 175 players. That figure is comparable to last year’s enrollment, but doCanto noted that many of the players were on the younger side.
“That’s a good sign for the league, and we’re hopeful for the future,” said doCanto.
But on Sunday, he and the others were just focused on another great season of baseball.
“This is a day for everybody to enjoy baseball and see all of the kids play at once,” he said.
Wareham Little League games are held Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays at the Charge Pond Road ballfields. For more information, visit www.warehamlittleleague.net.
