Meet Peace for Ponies' newest rescue on June 10
Peace for Ponies, a Wareham-based animal rescue, will hold an open house on June 10 to celebrate the arrival of its most recent addition. The open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the sanctuary, located at 12 Great Neck Road.
The star of the open house, according to Tammy Vieira, will be a yet-to-be-named mini donkey.
“He just came up three weeks ago from a kill pen in Texas,” said Vieira, who noted that the shelter is holding a naming contest on its Facebook page.
For $1 a vote people may choose a name. All funds will be used to benefit the shelter. Currently, the name Gabriel is in the lead with 429 votes followed by Andrew with 400.
Founded in 2012, Peace for Ponies launched with the aim of rescuing pregnant mini donkeys and mini horses from slaughter. Since then, the nonprofit has expanded to take in other animals such as turtles, snakes and goats.
