Child hit by car in Onset, airlifted from Tobey Hospital

A three-year-old child was airlifted from Tobey Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries just before 6 p.m. on Saturday after he was hit by a car on West Central Avenue in Onset.
Wareham Police Chief Kevin Walsh said the preliminary investigation indicated that the incident, which involved a car driven by an Arlington resident, was accidental.
"The child received an ankle injury and was transported via MedFlight to Boston due to the serious bone injury," Walsh said. "At this time the investigation shows the incident was accidental and the child ran out into the street."
Walsh noted that the investigation is ongoing, but that speed and stop-sign compliance were not factors in the accident.
The identity of the child was not released.
