Wareham 7-Eleven closed until further notice after car strikes gas pump

Sep 15, 2017

East Wareham's 7-Eleven will be closed until further notice after a van backed into a gas pump Friday afternoon, triggering the store's fire suppression system.

Police said 60-year-old John Malley of Wareham accidentally backed into the pump at approximately 12:30 p.m. Police said Malley was not injured and no citations were issued.

Emergency broadcasts indicate there was not a fire following the crash. Town officials report that a professional crew will be required to clean up the store, which could take up to a week. During that time, both the store and gas station will be closed to the public.

The town’s building inspector and Board of Health agent were both called to the scene.

CORRECTION: Due to a Wareham Police Department error, the original version of this article stated that 54-year-old Richard McCullum of Bourne was the driver.
