A woman who served on Wareham’s Community & Economic Development Authority (CEDA) board for more than a dozen years was recognized by the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday.

Jean Connaughton received a certificate recognizing her 13 years on the board, 12 of those years as the chairman, providing “a continuum of knowledge” in her role, Selectman Judith Whiteside said.

“In maintaining her dignified presence, she has helped guide the town through some turbulent era,” Whiteside said as she presented Connaughton with the certificate.

The CEDA board was dissolved in April following a vote at Town Meeting. The board was replaced with a Redevelopment Authority consisting of five members. They are tasked with creating an economic development plan for Wareham with a focus on eliminating blight and expanding the tax base.

Connaughton resigned from her CEDA position and has since been appointed to the Wareham Housing Authority.

“It’s going to be interesting,” said Connaughton of her new position.
