A 43-year-old man from Washington, D.C. was allegedly drunk early Friday after he crashed into another car where Tobey Road meets Route 28 before fleeing the scene, police said.

John Akridge IV was found “staggering in a parking lot” approximately 500 feet away from his heavily damaged car, which was parked not far from where the collision happened, according to a police press release.

The second car involved in the crash was occupied by two Plymouth residents who were uninjured. However, their car was “extensively damaged,” police said. Both reported they were driving south on Route 28 when a car heading north veered into their lane causing the crash and then continued on.

Policer said Officer Robert Mclain found the second car just as Officer Ryan Turner located Akridge.

Akridge was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.

Akridge was scheduled to be arraigned in Wareham District Court on Oct. 13.
