Wareham Recycling Center receives $1,000 donation, starts GoFundMe page
The Board of Selectmen accepted a donation for the Wareham Recycling Center on Tuesday to help the center with operating expenses, and now the community is invited to pitch in too.
The donation of $1,000 came from Covanta SEMASS, a waste-to-energy facility in Rochester, and was accepted unanimously. The donation helps the whole community with recycling and makes the process easier for neighboring towns, since Wareham residents have a local spot to drop off recyclable items, said Marilyn Russell, the recycling coordinator.
Russell said a GoFundMe page has been started where people can make donations to the recycling center. The center operates mainly on donated funds and handles 900,000 pounds of material each year.
Any money donated through GoFundMe will go to operating expenses, Russell said. To donate, visit https://www.gofundme.com/wareham-recycling-drop-off-center.
