Gateway Youth Hockey game results for weekend of Oct. 21

This weekend Gateway Youth Hockey teams netted five wins and one loss. For game summaries, see below.

Mite House Team

Gateway Gladiators 6, Lower Cape 11

The Mite House team faced off with Lower Cape on Oct. 21 and although they played hard came up short in the end. In net, Jack Wronski, was stellar stopping shots from all over while only allowing 11 goals. The offensive attack was strong as all players skated hard and fought for the puck. Jalayla Tillery got the Gladiators on the board first with a goal on a pass from Brodie Yaew. Brooke Whiteley kept the pressure on with her first of two goals followed by two goals from Isabella Goll. Whiteley scored her second goal of the morning to close within five goals of Lower Cape. Bentley Killion closed out the scoring with a late goal on a feed from Whiteley for a final score of 11-6.

Mite C Team

Gateway Gladiators 12, Yarmouth Dennis 8

The Mite C team defeated YD on Oct. 21. The Gladiators fell behind early. Des Murphy got the scoring started with his first of two goals to start the momentum. Caden Kosboski, RJ Murphy Jr, Nolan Almeida and Keeghan Hewak all scored to get the Gladiators even with YD. With the score tied at five, Tomas doCanto went to work with two goals to break the game open. Andrew Soucy added a goal and Hewak added two more for Gateway. With the game still close, Des Murphy added one more to close out the scoring.

Peewee B Team

Gateway Gladiators 4, Providence Bears 5

The Peewees battled with Providence on Oct. 22 trying to avenge an early season loss. The Gladiators jumped on the board early in the first with a goal from Will Harrop. After a back and forth period and the scored tied at one, Emily Kilpatrick fed Ty Rebeiro to take the lead back for the Gladiators. After a slow second period and falling behind 4-2 the Gladiators got fired up in the third with Matt Paling scoring on a pass from Harrop and Harrop adding his second of the game.  With the score tied at four the teams battled back and forth until Providence got a goal with less than 2 minutes to play. Shorthanded, the Gladiators pulled their goalie for an extra skater to no avail. In net, Marc Donati was solid stopping 28 of 33 shots including a late break away. The Peewees continue to play great hockey and look forward to a weekend off to rest up.

Midget White Team

Gladiators Midget White, 11, Vikings White, 4

On Oct. 20, the Gladiators Midget White team faced off against the Vikings White team, and earned an 11-4 win. Tyler Lovendale started the scoring for the Gladiators, assisted by Quirino doCanto and Matt Youlden. Zack Lovendale got into the goal column next, after getting the pass from Jack Martins. The third goal came from doCanto assisted by Z. Lovendale. Ty Lovendale finished the scoring in the first period, getting two more goals, one assisted by Martins. The score at the end of the first period was 5-2 and the Gladiators poured it on in the second period, with Zack Lovendale scoring a goal, followed by brother Ty scoring two. Will Goldman added one of his own and doCanto finished with two more. Assists on all the goals included, doCanto, T. Lovendale, Z. Lovendale, and Coleby Paling, all with one each.

Midget Blue Team

Mariners, 5, Gladiators Midget Blue, 4

On Oct. 21, the Gladiators Midget Blue team played their first game of the weekend, traveling to Martha’s Vineyard to play an undefeated Mariners team. The Gladiators played tough, but the short roster eventually caught up to them. The team lost 5-4. The Mariners got on the board first, but the Gladiators bounced back late in the first period when Zack Lovendale took a pass from Quirino doCanto, for his first goal on the day. Lovendale put the Gladiators up a goal about two minutes later, scoring after some nice passing from brother Tyler and doCanto. With the score 2-1 at the end of the first period, Gateway came out firing, scoring early in the second period when Ty Lovendale took a long pass from Bryan Gallagher, making a nice move, beating the defender, and finishing with a quick shot by the goalie. Shortly after that, doCanto got in on the scoring, with assists going to the Lovendale brothers. The Mariners never backed down, and the Gladiators just couldn't keep up as the game went on. A few mistakes by the Gladiators led to some easy goals for the Mariners, and they completed the comeback late in the period, then took the lead on a power play goal. Alex DeMarco played well in net, making 36 saves on the day.

Midget Blue, 6, Viking Green, 1

The Gladiators Midget Blue team followed up its tough Oct. 21 loss with a 6-1 win over the Viking Green team. Noah Reardon got the Gladiators on the board early, taking a feed from Quirino doCanto, in the slot, and beat the goalie with a quick wrist shot. Bryan Gallagher then added a goal, about half way through the first period, assisted by Noah DeMoranville and Zack Lovendale. Gallagher then added his second of the day, shortly after, assisted by Lovendale and Rory Lydon. With a 3-0 lead, going into the second period, Tyler Lovendale took a pass from doCanto, and beat the goalie. Reardon added the last two goals of the game, with assists going to doCanto, T. Lovendale and Z. Lovendale. Both Gladiator goalies played strong in net, with Alex DeMarco making 7 saves and Ethan Allegrini making 7 saves as well.
