New home furnishings store sets up shop in Onset

Nov 13, 2017

A new business owner in Onset is taking the mundane (old furniture, house paint, cupboards, doors) and transforming it into something – high-end home furnishings.

“Everything I do is repurposed,” said Trevor Watson, owner of Trevor’s Art and Decor. “You can get inspiration from everything.”

In Watson’s shop, located at 144 Onset Ave., a table drop leaf has been turned into a welcome sign, an old boat door is now a wall decoration and his own contemporary art work is for sale.

Previously in Buzzards Bay, Watson moved his store to Onset a few weeks ago to be closer to his roots and because he sees a community on the rise.

As a child, he recalled a booming village filled with shops and activity.

“There used to be artists on the bluff painting the landscape,” he said. “We need to bring those types of things back.”

While Watson has been repurposing furniture for the past 25 years, painting is something he started three years ago, quite by accident.

He decided to try his hand at painting and created two pieces that were displayed in a South End gallery. The work caught the eye of designer Rachel Reider who then commissioned Watson to create 35 pieces for Lark Hotels, a boutique chain with locations across New England.

“That’s how I got hooked on doing artwork,” he said.

His art work now is made using house paint and depict landscapes as well as contemporary designs.

The shop is filled with a mix of Watson’s paintings and furniture. He said he offers a variety of items for anyone looking to freshen up their home or decorate a new space.

Above all, Watson said he’s looking to find good matches between his work and clients.

“It’s about making the customer really happy,” he said.

Trevor’s Art and Decor will host a grand opening for the public with a speakeasy theme on Nov. 19 from 3 to 6 p.m. The store is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
