Pickup truck hits side of Cranberry Highway business

Jan 20, 2018

A pickup truck ran into the corner of Edwin L Morse Lumber on Cranberry Highway at around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Police Chief Kevin Walsh said preliminary indications were that the crash was the result of a "medical incident," possibly a seizure. The lumber yard, at 2502 Cranberry Highway, is nearly within sight of the police station.

The driver was a 55-year-old male Rochester resident traveling south on Route 28, Walsh said.

Jim Bruce, president of the lumber company, was working at the office in the building next door when he heard the crash. He was the first on the scene and tended to the sole occupant of the vehicle until EMTs arrived, using his knowledge from serving as a Marine battlefield medic during the Vietnam War. The man was conscious on the scene and his airbag deployed.

No one in the building was injured. The building inspector was called to the scene and determined the structure to be sound.
