A 49-year-old Wareham man has been formally accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend on Nov. 4 in a Pembroke park.

Plymouth County District Attorney spokeswoman Beth Stone said Mario Facchini of 3026 Cranberry Highway was indicted by a grand jury on Feb. 9. Facchini is charged with armed assault with intent to murder and assault by means of a dangerous weapon, said Stone. Facchini also faces a charge of assault and battery related to the incident, which involved police from several towns.

Police said Facchini stabbed the victim, a Hanson woman who is not being identified, in the chest multiple times at Stetson Pond Beach shortly before 9:30 a.m. after an argument. Police said the woman had been dating Facchini, but the two broke up months before. She was meeting Facchini to collect money he owed her, officials said.

After the argument, the victim drove a short distance to Hanson and called 911.

A Halifax police officer arrived at the scene first, followed by a Hanson officer. Paramedics were called and the victim was taken by helicopter to Massachusetts Hospital in Boston in critical condition.

Before being transported, the victim provided police with Facchini’s address. A Pembroke police officer went to that address and found a 2000 red Dodge Ram pick-up truck belonging to the victim that Facchini reportedly drove after the incident. It was then towed to the Pembroke Police Station.

Facchini turned himself in to Plymouth Police without incident after an arrest warrant had been issued.
