Saint Joseph School 7th Graders Collect Hats for KIds with Cancer

Feb 16, 2018

7th grade teacher, Misti Nordstrom was looking for a community service project for her students when a friend shared a Face book post of "Caiden's Crusaders". Caiden was just 5 months old when he was diagnosed with cancer and unfortunately, he succumbed to the illness before turning 2. Since Caiden loved to wear funny hats, his family and friends started to collect hats for infants to adolescents who have lost their hair to cancer. Mrs. Nordstrom and her students started their donation drive in January and soon word spread. Donations came in from school families, local businesses, alumni, and local knitters. The students sorted the hats by size and packed them up for their pick up. Caiden's grandmother and  great grandmother drove from Newburyport recently to meet the class and to share Caiden's story with them. His family was especially moved by "these sweet young kids" and stated "how proud they were to show us the hats they collected". "It was an amazing day", they remarde.

The class collected over 200 hats for the cause.
