Gilbert Couto, 88, of West Wareham, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on March 11. He was the husband of the late Frances A. (Hayward) Couto. Mr. Couto was born in New Bedford, the son of the late John and Alice (Carter) Couto.

He attended New Bedford Public Schools and was a retiree for the Town of Wareham. He had a passion for the game of pool. He enjoyed playing, observing, and teaching the game at the local pool hall. His other enjoyments included westerns, painting and drawing.

Mr. Couto is survived by his children: Alan Couto of Florida, Deborah Long of Florida, Elizabeth Couto of Wareham, Crystal Romano of New York and Gil Couto of Wareham. He was the grandfather of; Shane M. Couto, Bradford Goodman, Chad Goodman, Brian Couto, Brandi Couto, Carmine Romano and Peter Romano. Great-grandfather of; Matthew, Owen, Clark, Dylan, Devin, Daelynn, Carleigh, Adeline and Julia. Great-great-grandfather of Alana. He was the grandfather of the late Starr-Ann Couto and brother of the late Leo Couto and John Couto.
