2 road races earn Selectmen approval

May 2, 2018

Selectmen approved two requests for road races on Tuesday, the 6th annual “Lazy Lobster Race” on June 17 and the Gleason Family YMCA Armed Forces Day 5K on May 19.

The Lazy Lobster 5K will start and finish at Wareham Crossing.

All of the proceeds will go My Team Triumph, an athletic ride-along program created for children, teens, adults, and veterans with disabilities who would normally not be able to experience endurance events like triathlons or road races. The donation to My Team Triumph will be used to fund wheelchairs, some of which could cost up to $6,000 since the chairs must be custom-made.

Online registration is open now. To register, visit www.southshorerace.com.

There will be multiple races on that day, including a Kids Fun Run, a five-mile race, and a 10-mile race.

The Armed Forces Day 5K will start and end at Onset Pier. The race begins at 9 a.m. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female runners. Awards are also presented to the top three finishers both male and female in several age categories.

Registration is $30 for adults, $17 for children 14 and under. Veterans and active military with valid ID pay $20. Registration can be done online at www.runreg.com, at the Gleason Family YMCA Welcome Center 33 Charge Pond Road Wareham, or on race day starting at 7:30 a.m. at the pier.

All proceeds will benefit the Gleason Family YMCA. Runners are encouraged to wear patriotic clothing.
