Wareham girls tennis beats Carver, continues excellent season

May 17, 2018

The Wareham girls tennis team defeated Carver 6-0 on Wednesday, continuing one of its most successful seasons in recent memory.

Last year, the team lost to Carver twice. On Tuesday, the team defeated Bourne for the first time in over a decade. The win also marked the first time in 10 years the team defeated an opponent it had lost to earlier in the same season.

Half the winning sets in Wednesday’s game were by a score of 6-0. The first doubles team of Emily Glidden and Olivia Powers had a competitive first set. They ended the match by winning the last nine consecutive games.

Easy wins by Lucy Sullivan at first singles and Natalia Moulding at second singles, where the best players compete against each other, also showed progress, said Coach Geoff Swett.

Finally, the eighth grade team of Allison Sciaraffa and Mackenzie Brodley, both new to the sport of tennis and the team this year, had their first victory together at second doubles.

The team’s South Coast Conference record is now 3-8 and overall record is 7-8.
