‘Mayhem’ comes back to Gleason Family YMCA in Wareham

Jun 3, 2018

The Gleason Family YMCA hosted its third annual Mayhem for a Cause event on Saturday night in a continued effort to raise funds for the Y Cares Financial Aid Program.

The campaign assists those who struggle to afford the cost of a YMCA membership on their own. It also helps families in need to access programs like summer camps and swim lessons.

"We want everyone to be able to enjoy an experience at the Y," said Special Event Coordinator Cathy Longfield. "So we're really happy to have Mayhem back in Wareham."

Sponsored by professional wrestling company Top Rope Productions, the show took center stage in the YMCA's basketball court complete with concessions, merchandise and souvenirs.

"The kids are the ones that really get into it," Longfield said. "They're what gets the crowd involved."

Armed with inflatable "thunder sticks,” kids cheered on their favorite wrestles and took a whack at the bad guys as they left the ring.

"The thunder sticks," Longfield said, "have been a big hit."

Kids were also treated to face painting and a chance to get a photograph with their favorite wrestler in the ring.

"We love seeing everyone come out like this," Longfield said. "It's a just a really wonderful fundraiser."
