Gatemen, Town of Wareham join forces for data collection project

Jul 5, 2018

Eight Wareham Gatemen interns aren’t just collecting experience working for the amateur baseball team this summer, they’re also collecting data.

The interns are assisting the Town Assessors office with its current data collection project. The project fulfills a state requirement that the assessors visit all properties in town every 10 years.

The partnership is the result of collaboration between Gatemen General Manager Andrew Lang and the assessors office.

The interns are college students from all over the country who have been selected to work with the Cape Cod Baseball League. The interns generally perform their baseball duties in the mornings and work on the data collection project in the afternoon and evenings. The interns join four data collectors already in the field who are visiting properties and verifying information currently on file.

All data collectors carry Town of Wareham identification as well as an introduction letter. The assessors office encourages anyone with questions about the project, or to verify the data collectors’ identities when they visit, by calling the assessor’s office Monday through Thursday and Wareham Police on Fridays.
