Wareham Police responded to a crash on Thursday, July 5, after a car collided with a utility pole on Swifts Beach Road and Marion Road trapping a 75-year-old man inside. Detectives directing traffic at the scene also arrested a man who had an active warrant.

Officers responding to the crash at approximately 10:11 a.m. found the vehicle on its side. The utility pole the car had struck snapped, trapping the driver inside.

Marion Police were called to assist with blocking traffic because Wareham Police were tied up with another crash on I-495 that left three men seriously injured. Onset Fire personnel covered for the Wareham Fire Department, which was tied up on the highway at a third crash. The driver was extracted from the car using the Jaws of Life and taken to Tobey Hospital. His condition is unknown.

While directing traffic at the accident, Wareham Police detectives noticed a car driven by Alexander Ard, 28, of Wareham. Knowing there was an active warrant for Ard's arrest, he was stopped. Ard attempted to roll up his window after being told that he was under arrest, forcing the detective to reach into the car, unlock the door, and remove him from the vehicle.

In addition to the warrant, Ard also has a suspended license.
