Tobey Hospital achieved accreditation from the Surgical Review Corporation as a center of excellence in Robotic Surgery.

Robotic surgery allows the surgical team to make smaller cuts, with more precision during a procedure. Patients who receive robotic surgery can see less bleeding, smaller scar areas, conservation of bone and healthy tissue and shorter recovery times.

Status as an accredited center of excellence in Robotic Surgery means that the program has met nationally and internationally recognized standards of excellence in patient care. The Surgical Review Corporation is a nonprofit patient safety organization that develops and administers accreditation programs for medical professionals.

Executive Vice President and Chief Physician Officer at Southcoast Health, Dennis La Rock, said  the field of robotic surgery is constantly advancing.

"The ability to exceed clinical benchmarks and guidelines bringing the latest innovation to our patients requires a full team effort,” he said. 

Healthcare facilities and surgeons seeking a Surgical Review Corporation accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure the applicant meets the corporation's proven standards and requirements.

Tammy Gleeson, Program Director of Robotic Surgery at Southcoast Health said that she was honored to work with an amazing team that looks for ways to improve the care they give patients.

In addition to this recognition, ten Southcoast Health physicians have achieved accreditation as a Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery including. 

Wareham physician, Jorge Huaco Cateriano, is one of ten. Cateriano is the Chief of Bariatric & General Surgery and works at Southcoast Physicians Group General Surgery at 100 Rosebrook Way in Wareham.

Gary Pratt, CEO of the Surgical Review Corporation said that the accreditation means that Tobey is among the best.
