The Onset Cape Verdean Festival will be held Saturday, Aug. 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the center of Onset. The rain date is Sunday, Aug. 12. This is the 16th year that the festival has been organize by the Onset Cape Verdean Festival Association.

Parking is limited in the village. Space is available at three lots along Onset Avenue for $10. A free shuttle is provided to the festival site from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Onset Cape Verdean Festival Association is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. There is no charge to attend the festival. The Onset Cape Verdean Festival is funded only through donations from sponsors, area businesses, individual supporters and people attending the day of the festival. A free program is provided with information on the Cape Verde Islands, Cape Verdean history, music and food.

There will be 20 food vendors selling traditional Cape Verdean dishes, popular American food and desserts. There will be 80 vendors selling Cape Verdean artifacts, clothing, arts and crafts, jewelry and other things. To reserve space, call Mike Roderick at 508-789-8726.

Live entertainment will kick off at noon and continue until 6 p.m. This year, the program will feature Calu Bana Band. Gutty Duarte, (a returning guest to the festival) will also perform. Also performing, Fantastic Trio plus One and other performing artists from throughout the South coast area.
