Photos & video: Sun and fun made for another successful Swan Festival
Sunny, 80-degree weather on Saturday made for a beautiful day for the Wareham Village Association's 15th annual Swan Festival on Merchants Way.
The festival featured scores of activities for children, as well as artists and crafts, musical performances, dancing, and of course, food - everything from clam chowder to strawberry shortcake.
Village Association president Jackie Lindesey said she was "thrilled" with the turnout, which brought hundreds to the Agawam River, where dozens of swans call "home."
"At 4:00 this morning it was pouring rain, but I knew it was going to blow over," Lindsey said. "I said there'd be blue skies and sunshine by noon."
And she was right! The weather had festival goers seeking shade instead of umbrellas and enjoying everything the event had to offer.
Tents with activities, information, and merchandise lined Merchants Way from the Wareham Fire Department almost to Sandwich Road.
Lindsey and the Village Association prepared for the festivities for months. Grants were applied for in January. By February, the proper permits for the town were in-hand and all the tents, tables, chairs, and dumpsters were ordered. By March, the vendors were booked and promotions for the event began.
Wareham Week and WarehamVillageSoup.com partnered with Wareham Community Television (WCTV) to bring viewers at home live coverage of the Swan Festival. Check back here for video clips and a schedule for rebroadcasts of the event!
