Lopes Field gets a new pavilion roof
Wareham CORE took one more step towards the completion of the Lopes Field Playground renovation on Monday.
Using donated materials from Gulfeagle Supply, Gibbs Roofing and Remodeling volunteered to refinish the pavilion roof.
Gibbs Roofing and Remodeling owner Daniel Gibbs, who frequently visited Lopes Field Playground as a child, offered to reconstruct the roof for free as a way to give back to the community.
“We try to help communities as much as we can. The roof definitely needed the work. There was some rotted plywood. We made sure everything was done right when we undid it,” said Gibbs. “The overall color looks really nice. We don't mind helping.”
With the support of the Municipal Maintenance Department, Wareham CORE was able to save the existing playground equipment, such as swings and slides, from the Minot Forest Elementary School prior to demolition. The group plans to install the equipment within the next couple of weeks.
The group also plans to install a new baseball diamond and pathways to make the entire area wheelchair accessible.
