Framingham man arrested in Wareham in connection to Marlboro stabbing
The Wareham Police Department on Wednesday, Dec. 14 arrested a Framingham man who was wanted in connection with alleged stabbings and an assault. A regional SWAT team assisted with the arrest.
Joseph Nsubuga, 22, was charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder. He was also charged with mayhem.
According to police, Nsubuga allegedly stabbed two females, who suffered life-threatening wounds, and assaulted a man with a handgun in Marlborough on Sunday, Dec. 11. Nsubuga allegedly fled the scene and the warrant was issued for his arrest, according to police.
The Wareham Police Department and the regional SWAT team responded to the Silver Lake Motel on Cranberry Highway after Wareham Patrolman Stephen Kearney conducted a random search of a license plate at the motel, police said. The vehicle was registered to Nsubuga, of 24A Second Street in Framingham. Nsubuga's arrest warrant came up during the search, police said.
The Wareham Police Department asked the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) SWAT team to assist in the arrest because Nsubuga was reported as dangerous, according to police.
After confirming that Nsubuga was inside a motel room at the Silver Lake Motel, negotiators convinced him to leave the room and he was arrested in the parking lot without incident, according to police reports. He was transported to the Wareham Police Department for booking.
Police said no evidence pertaining to the incident in Marlborough had been recovered in Wareham. Further investigation will be conducted by the Marlborough Police Department.
In a statement, Chief Richard Stanley praised the alertness of the Wareham Police Department Patrol Division and the cooperative effort put forth by the SWAT team and the Wareham Police Department during the incident. He also reiterated that Wareham will not be a "safe haven" for criminals.
