Wareham will receive $825,000 in grant funding for a variety of town projects, including housing rehabilitation, sidewalk improvements at Bayview Park and support for a food pantry. 

Wareham is one of 41 communities awarded funds from the federal Community Development Block Grant Program. In total, $34 million in federal grants were awarded, ensuring communities can “pursue important local projects, including housing rehabilitation, small infrastructure projects, and for local social services like youth programming or food banks,” according to a Baker-Polito administration press release.

The money the town will receive is set to be used for a number of projects. Some funds will go toward housing rehabilitation assistance and improvements to the sidewalks at Bayview Park in East Wareham. The money will provide support for a food pantry and homelessness prevention efforts as well. 

Literacy and transportation services and the Boys and Girls Club will also benefit from some of the grant funds. 

Charlie Baker said he was pleased to announce the federal funding, which he said would help “communities deliver vital services to residents.” 

"These grants will help municipalities fill key budget gaps created by the pandemic, enabling them to advance critical long-term projects while continuing to support residents in the fight against covid-19,” Baker said.
