Eye in the sky: Onset drone video in the works
Residents who’ve visited the town’s Discover Wareham site might remember watching the drone video filmed of downtown Wareham and the waterfront. Now, the town hopes to create a similar video of Onset Village.
The video would be filmed using a drone camera — a device that would fly above Onset and take an aerial video.
Town Planner Ken Buckland proposed the idea during a June 24 Wareham Redevelopment Authority meeting.
“[The Discover Wareham video] shows off the elements of the town and now we want one for Onset,” Buckland said.
The downtown Wareham video was filmed by the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District, and Buckland said he plans to approach them about filming the Onset video.
Buckland said he expects the video to cost somewhere between $12,000 and $15,000. He added that businesses in Onset will likely be the main source of funding.
Buckland asked the Redevelopment Authority to authorize him to approach Onset businesses for the money.
Tim Fay, co-founder of Stonestreet Corporation, has already been approached about contributing some of the money, Buckland said.
Buckland will also explore grant funding for the video.
The board members unanimously voted to allow Buckland to start fundraising for the project and to ask SRPEDD to film it. The committee noted that another vote would be needed to approve how the funds will be spent.
