Thousands hit day four without power
More than 3,300 Wareham residents remained without electricity as the sun rose on Saturday, Oct. 30, in the wake of a destructive nor’easter storm that hit the South Coast region late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
About 22.5 percent of the approximately 14,900 customers Eversource serves in Wareham were still without power as of 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 30.
That number was down significantly from the total number of Wareham power outages reported around noon Thursday, when the storm had passed — which came in around 10,858 customers.
Per Eversource’s estimate, 99 percent of customers in Wareham will see their power restored by 6 p.m. today.
Eversource representative William Hinkle said the company still has “thousands of workers in the hardest hit communities working around the clock to meet those estimated restoration times.”
He said the company was doing everything possible to restore residents’ power by this evening.
“Obviously this storm brought a lot of destruction to the region, and Wareham was one of the hardest hit communities,” Hinkle said.
He also noted that the outages shown on Eversource’s outage map are accurate, but they are not all because of this week’s nor’easter.
“The system has taken on additional damage recently, and we do expect some additional outages are possible with strong winds later today and throughout the day,” Hinkle said.
The Town of Wareham has opened the Wareham Free Library as a charging station on Saturday, Oct. 30 until 3 p.m.
Eversource would be providing additional information later today, he said.
