A motorcyclist was flown to a Boston-area hospital via medical helicopter on Tuesday after his bike collided with a sedan at the intersections of Route 28, Carver Road, and Doty Street in West Wareham.

Wareham Police did not immediately release the identity of the motorcycle driver. Lieutenant Kevin Walsh confirmed that the victim is a Wareham man. His condition was not known.

The driver of the car, John Vaccaro, said that he was not hurt in the accident.

Vaccaro, a 21-year-old Carver Road resident, said that he was heading home as he was taking a left from Route 28 onto Carver Road at around 2:30 p.m.

Vaccaro, driving a black Ford Focus, said that he waited for a car traveling in the opposite direction to pass and began to take the left. A motorcycle was traveling behind the car, Vaccaro said.

"I think he hit the windshield and rolled off," Vaccaro said, adding that the accident occurred very quickly.

The passenger area of the Focus's front windshield was partly shattered.

"I was like, this isn't happening, I'm like 2 seconds away from home," Vaccaro said.

No citations have been issued, but the crash is still under investigation, Walsh said.
