Jun 17, 2025

A box truck carrying hazardous materials spilled in the area of Maritime Drive and Great Neck Road Friday, June 13.

The Wareham Fire Department responded to the spill around noon on Friday where crews worked for three-and-a-half hours to clean up the spill.

Assistant Fire Chief Mark Rodgers reported that the event was contained.

"We responded, and we secured the area," he said. "We called for the HAZMAT team because it was unknown."

The Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Hazardous Materials Response Team was ordered to the scene. Firefighters secured the area while HAZMAT dealt with the spilled substance.

The substance remains unidentified but was cleaned by HAZMAT and a private company. Dirt around the truck was collected in the process.

The area of Maritime Drive and Great Neck Road was closed as crews worked to remediate the spill.

Rodgers said there is no danger to the public and that the area of the spill is clear.
