Wareham Little League to host 2nd Annual 24 hour ballgame

May 31, 2012

The Wareham Little League's 24 Hour Ballgame is back, and this year promises to be even better than last year according to event organizers.

“Last year was fantastic," said Wareham Little League event organizer Jennifer DeMello. "We are all looking forward to another great ballgame, and a great community builder. These young boys and girls are so excited to play. ... Several of us stayed up the entire 24 hours last year.  We are ready to do it again."

The Little League will host the 24 Hour Ballgame on June 9 to 10 from 10 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The event is a fundraiser for the league. Organizers hope to raise $35,000 this year.

Planned activities include a dunk tank, an inflatable kiddie playground, inflatable jousting, a bungee run, face painting, carnival games, basket raffles, a "fastest pitch" contest, a base-running contest, a home run derby, a "perfect pitch" contest, a chance to win $500, and a family sleepover on the field.

Every baseball player in the Wareham Little League who is able to will participate in the game.

Little League players who raise at least $150 will receive an invitation to a "VIP party" to be held July 21 at the Wareham Little League fields.

Among other things, the party will include a water balloon battle, double waterslide, a rock wall, a sleepover at field, dinner and a big screen movie, and a pancake breakfast.

The top overall fundraiser will receive four tickets to a Red Sox game, including transportation to and from the game and a $50 food voucher, as well as an Apple iPad 2 and an invitation to the VIP party.

The second through fifth top fundraisers will receive the iPads and an invitation to the VIP party, and the sixth through tenth top fundraisers will receive an Apple iPod Touch and an invitation to the VIP party.

Last year's fundraiser brought in around $29,000, and top fundraisers got a chance to meet Nomar Garciaparra at a luncheon at Salerno's Function Hall in Onset.

Proceeds from last year's event went to replacing out-of-code bleachers at the Little League complex and to the Mia Hamm Foundation.
