Wayne F. Dudley, 88
BUZZARDS BAY – Wayne F. Dudley, 88, of Buzzards Bay, died Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. He was the husband of Mary E. (Carey) Dudley.
Born in Middleboro, he was the son of the late Harold and Jean (Stuart) Dudley. Mr. Dudley graduated from Taunton Vocational High School. He also received an associate degree in criminology from Cape Cod Community College.
Mr. Dudley had a long career in law enforcement, beginning as an officer with the Bourne Police Department, then with the Wareham Police Department for over 20 years. He was named acting chief on May 3, 1979.
Mr. Dudley was the owner of Dudley Bus Company, which served Wareham, Bourne, Sandwich and Upper Cape Tech Public schools for over 30 years.
Mr. Dudley served in the Army National Guard in Massachusetts and Connecticut. He also coached for Bourne Youth SWISH Basketball, Bourne Youth Softball, assistant softball coach for Mass. Maritime Academy, and was past president of the Bourne Braves baseball. In his youth, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 10 in Middleboro.
Survivors include his wife Mary E. Dudley of Buzzards Bay; his children, Scott Dudley of Easley, SC, Kimberley Benoit of Dayton, OH, Allan Dudley of Murrysville, PA, Christine Dudley-Crowe of Dayton, OH, Elizabeth Dudley-Phelan of Easton, Patricia Evans of Tinley Park, IL and Jean Garvey of Buzzards Bay; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, the late Stuart Dudley.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church, Main St., Buzzards Bay at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at a later date. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
