Wareham Free Library to host storytelling celebration with award winning performers David Bates and Roger Tincknell
The Wareham Free Library is welcoming 2 award winning performers, Davis Bates and Roger Tincknell, for an interactive story telling program that will involve the audience in a variety of cultural traditions.
"Imagine That: Celebrating Reading in Story and Song," will be held at the Wareham Free Library on Tuesday, June 26 at 11 a.m.
The event will also launch the Wareham Free Library's summer reading program "Dream Big - Read."
Families will have the chance to sing, move and dance as they hear how the stars came to be in the sky, how the bear missed the rain, and as they sing a dancing wooden dog to sleep.
Songs and stories are accompanied by instruments from around the world such as the Aztec rainstick, the Incan flute, the Russian balalaika, the African drum, as well as the guitar, mandolin, and the North American banjo.
There will also be a short lesson in how to play the spoons.
Davis Bates and Roger Tincknell have over seven decades of combined experience performing for families in community settings throughout the Northeast.
David has won the Parents Choice Gold Award for his storytelling cassette, Family Stories, and was recently named one of the year's best audio recording by Booklist magazine.
Davis was called a "thoughtful, creative, human, and a fantastic storyteller" by Pete Seeger for his traditional and interactive style of story telling.
Singer, songwriter, and musician Roger Tincknell has also won Parents Choice Honor awards for Earth Rhythms, his album of environmental songs, and Carnivalito, his most recent release.
Tincknell's concerts include a wide variety of guitar styles, as well as banjo, mandolin, bouzouki, harmonica and piano playing. His repertoire ranges from sensitive love songs and ballads to fiddle tunes, country and swing songs, blues, and yodeling.
Their performance is funded by a grant from the Wareham Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
The Dream Big – Read summer reading program is sponsored by the Wareham Free Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
