Joseph Bacchieri, Jr., 87, federal auditor, WWII Army veteran

Joseph Bacchieri, Jr., 87, of West Wareham died Saturday, June 23, at his home after a long illness. He was the husband of Doris (Dastous) Bacchieri.

Born in Wareham, the son of the late Joseph & Alfonsina (Ferioli) Bacchieri, he graduated from Wareham High School in 1942. Mr. Bacchieri served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.

Mr. Bacchieri was a defense contract auditor for the U.S. government for many years. He then was employed at G.T.E. in Needham until his retirement. A previous resident of Walpole, he moved to Wareham in 1991.

He was a lifetime member of the Wareham Lodge of Elks #1548, a member of AARP, National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), and the 9th Infantry Division Assoc. Mr. Bacchieri enjoyed golf and was a member of Little Harbor Golf Club. He also enjoyed baseball.

Survivors include his wife; his daughters, Jane Marie Bacchieri and her husband Kip Pheil of Portland, OR and Deborah Ann Krull and her husband David of Media, PA; his brother, Leo Bacchieri and his wife Carole of East Wareham; his granddaughters, Lydia and Heidi Krull, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony and Elmer Bacchieri, and his sister, Mary Atwood.

His funeral Mass will be held on Fri., June 29, at St. Patrick’s Church, High Street, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Thursday at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham from 5 to 8 p.m.
