Gale Louise (Selig) Hutchins, 81
ONSET – Gale Louise (Selig) Hutchins, 81, of Onset, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by her loving family on June 4, 2024. She was the wife of the late Bruce Linwood Hutchins and the daughter of the late Parker and Alice Louise (Swift) Selig.
Gale was born in Wareham and lived Buzzards Bay and in Dracut for many years. In retirement, the Hutchins’s resided in Onset, enjoying the beach and water of the bay. Mrs. Hutchins graduated from Bourne High School.
Early in her career, she worked as a hairdresser. She then owned and operated an in-home day care for many years in Dracut. After retiring, she worked at Walmart Garden Center in Wareham.
Gale enjoyed creating dried flower arrangements and attending craft fairs. She was an outstanding cook, baker and she enjoyed entertaining family. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the Sippican Tennis Club. Most of all, she was a loving and supporting wife, mother and grandmother.
In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s she was crowned “Miss Cranberry Highway” and “Miss Bourne”. Soon after the pageant, she stopped by Dainty Maid on Cranberry Highway where her waiter recognized her from a newspaper article. This young waiter later became her loving husband, Bruce, of 60 years.
Gale is survived by her three children, Kenneth Hutchins and his wife Donna of Manchester, NH, Tamara Powell and her husband Dr. J. Guzaj of Methuen and William Hutchins and his wife Christina of Tewksbury; four grandchildren, Samuel, Sophia, Teddy and Jack. She was the sister of the late Dorothy Philbrick Gibbs and Alvin Philbrick.
A celebration of Gale’s life will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Gale’s home, 37 East Blvd., Onset.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gale may be made to Dracut Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 117, Dracut, MA 01826.
