Car show to return to Elks for second year

Jul 5, 2024

Lovers of classic cars soon will be able to see their fill, as a car show put on for the benefit of Agawam Mill Pond will return to the Wareham New-Bedford Elks lodge on Saturday, July 20.

This is the second year that Cleanup Agawam Mill Pond, an organization which keeps the pond clear of invasive weeds, has organized the show with the Elks, as well as with the Downshifters Car Club.

The Elks reached out to the organization this year and asked if it would bring back the car show, said Mike Lenihan, President of Cleanup Agawam Mill Pond. “They enjoyed it so much.”

“It’s been a great match-up with us and the Elks,” said Lenihan.

The show will have registration for participating cars from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., for $20 per car. It will be open to the public for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be 10 trophies up for grabs in this year’s show, said Lenihan. “Everybody loves to go home with a trophy.”

Lenihan plans to have his own car there, a red 1970 Cutlass Supreme Convertible.

He’s had it for over thirty years, and he keeps it in good condition by driving it rarely and by keeping it out of the rain.

The Cutlass, as well as event attendees, will be hoping for a day of good weather on Saturday, July 20. If that fails, the event will be postponed to a rain date on Sunday, July 21.

Food and drink will be available in the Elks lounge. Music will be provided by DJ John Remedis, also known as Johnny Angel.

“We’re hoping that we’ll have a good turnout,” said Lenihan.
