Shoplifter with five outstanding arrest warrants arrested at Target

A New Bedford man with five outstanding arrest warrants was arrested outside of Target Monday, Dec. 16.

John Vacchino Jr., 65, was charged with shoplifting, two counts of unlawful removal of deactivation/anti-theft device, unlawful Possession of anti-theft deactivator/remover, and fugitive from justice.

Officers were dispatched to Target at approximately 3:30 p.m. Dec. 16 as Vacchino left the store and got into an awaiting vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle as it was leaving and Vacchino fled on foot through the parking lot until he was placed in police custody. He was found in possession of tools to defeat security devices.

Throughout the investigation police learned Vacchino had four outstanding arrest warrants in various courts in Massachusetts and one out of Carroll County Sheriff's Department in New Hampshire.

Vacchino was held without bail and held at Wareham District Court Tuesday, Dec. 17.
