Cranberries fit for a president: Wareham company sends product to inauguration

Jan 23, 2013

President Barack Obama’s second inauguration included a little taste of Wareham on Monday.

Organizers requested that Wareham-based Willows Cranberries send along its Smart Choice trail mix.

“The order came in by telephone and was received with great excitement," said Rosanne DeGrenier of Willows Cranberries. "Just to have our company and product be selected for distribution during this honorable function of our country’s government is a great endorsement for the quality of our product.”

Willows Cranberries makes sauces, salad dressings, and dried cranberries, among other products.

Items that represent the states of newly-elected leaders were chosen for the inauguration gift bags. Massachusetts’ tart little berry was chosen to honor Senator Elizabeth Warren. Macadamia nuts were chosen for Hawaii, and popcorn was picked for Indiana.

According to Willows Cranberries, the Smart Choice trail mix “is a healthy blend of sweet cranberries, soybeans, Thompson and golden raisins, sunflower seeds and pepitas.”
