Barnacle Bill's is open for business
A familiar East Wareham eatery has reopened with a new menu and new management.
Barnacle Bill’s, located at 3126 Cranberry Highway, has relaunched under the management of Andrew and James Mattos, and is not to be confused with Barnacle Bob's, which is slated to open at 2424 Cranberry Highway on the other side of town.
The Mattos also own Danny’s Seafood Bar and Grill in New Bedford, named for Andrew's grandfather, Daniel, who opened it about 40 years ago.
The Mattos are leasing the property from Joe and Guy Marino, who own the Lobster Pot restaurant.
“I’ve been in the other restaurant since I was a kid,” said Andrew Mattos. “It was always my dream to own a restaurant.”
Mattos says he got his chance after Barnacle Bill’s went out of business.
“The space became available, and I was there the day they [the Marino brothers] got notice,” Mattos explained.
In addition to the usual seafood fare, the menu has Portuguese foods such as chorico and caocoila. Mattos described caocoila as shredded pork cooked in a Portuguese wine sauce.
Mattos will be cooking in the kitchen along with his mother, Maddie. Another new addition to Barnacle Bill’s is waitresses.
The place is very much a family business, with Mattos’ wife, Jennifer, and sister-in-law, Mia, waiting tables.
“We want to concentrate on full-service dining," said Mattos. "You can order take-out or sit down and be waited on."
He hopes to expand the business by adding a full-service take-out window and a deck for outdoor dining. Mattos also plans to eventually apply for a liquor license.
Barnacle Bill's is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
