As of April 25, there were a total of 103 coronavirus cases in Wareham, Town Administrator Derek Sullivan reported on Sunday, April 26. Of those, 54 were in the general public, 36 in nursing homes, and two at All American Assisted Living. 

Seven people have recovered from the disease, and four people have died.

The nursing home cases of coronavirus are at the Tremont Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center. A staff member at Wareham Healthcare said the facility had no cases on April 26.

The total number of cases has jumped significantly since Wednesday, April 22, when the state reported a total of 78 cases in town. That’s an increase of 25 cases in three days.

Although the town is not requiring the use of face masks in public, Sullivan strongly recommended that residents do so to protect themselves and others. Those wearing face masks and gloves are asked to dispose of them properly.

Sullivan also recommended some steps residents could take to protect themselves, including staying home as much as possible and having groceries delivered.

When out in public, keep a distance of six feet between one’s self and others. 

Wash hands regularly for 20 seconds with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when necessary.

Avoid touching one’s face.

Monitor one’s self for coronavirus symptoms, which include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. 

“We are not out of the woods from COVID-19 and understand that the current disruptions to all our lives are difficult. Your help matters most on stopping the spread of this deadly virus. Thank you to all who have sacrificed so much and worked hard to help combat the spread of COVID-19,” Sullivan wrote.
