28 Wareham DECA students move on to state competition
Wareham High School DECA students put their business, marketing and entrepreneurial skills to the test as 48 students competed in the DECA district competition.
The district competition was held in Hyannis Jan. 9 and 10 and Wareham students competed against 980 other high schoolers across 13 different high schools.
The competitions have kids role play different scenarios that fall into one of six categories which range from hospitality and tourism to personal finance. Kids also take written tests to test their knowledge.
Of the 48 Wareham students competing, 40 of them were competing for the first time and 28 of them earned a spot in the state competition being held Feb. 27 to March 1.
11 students were given awards at the competition for their performance at the competition.
DECA is an international non-profit organization dedicated to teaching kids about business, marketing, finance and more as well as giving them the skills they need to prepare as future entrepreneurs. Each year DECA hosts competitions at district, state and international levels for kids to demonstrate the skills they have learned.
