80-year-old sentenced to five years in prison for drug charges

An 80-year-old Wareham man has been sentenced to five years in state prison following his conviction for numerous drug trafficking charges.

Anthony Frates of 125 Highland Shore Drive was arrested on August 13, 2019, after a two-month investigation by the Wareham Police, Taunton Police, and Massachusetts Parole Board. 

Authorities determined that Frates was delivering drugs in Wareham and Taunton, and using his home in Wareham as a home-base. In a search, police found and seized 175 grams of cocaine, 14 methadone hydrochloride pills, and 28 clonazepam pills.

Frates pled guilty to one count of trafficking cocaine; one count of possession with intent to distribute class c, subsequent offense; and two counts of possession with intent to distribute a class b, subsequent offense.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Brian Fahy.
