97 percent without power in Wareham as crews restore electricity
A damaging nor’easter that blew through the region Friday has Eversource crews working to restore power to nearly all of Wareham.
As of 7 a.m., Eversource reports that 14,195 of Wareham customers are without power – or 97 percent of the town.
According to Eversource officials, crews are “working non-stop to repair the destruction caused by the high winds, rain and snow.”
“We realize being without power for any length of time can be a difficult,” Eversource Vice President of Electric Field Operations Doug Foley. “We strive to always be there for our customers when they need us and we remain focused on restoring service to all of those affected.”
Eversource reminds customers to always stay clear of downed wires and to report them immediately to 9-1-1. Customers can report an outage online at www.eversource.com, or by calling 800-592-2000.
Anyone smelling the odor of natural gas due to broken lines should report it immediately to Eversource at 1-800-592-2000. Natural gas is non-toxic, colorless, tasteless, and odorless and has a distinctive, pungent odor – similar to rotten eggs – added so it can provide an easily recognized warning that gas is escaping.
Additionally, customers who are using a generator are reminded to be sure the generator is located well away from their home or business and that the transfer switch is working properly.
