Acclaimed classical music duo to perform March 8

Feb 23, 2015

Famed violinist Ariadne Daskalakis will return to Wareham alongside pianist Miri Yampolsky on Sunday, March 8 to perform Ludwig van Beethoven: The 10 Sonatas for Violin and Piano.

“It’s a huge source of joy to be able to come home and contribute to the community,” said Daskalakis.

Daskalakis is the creator of the Music from Land’s End Wareham festival series and a former Wareham resident. Proceeds will benefit the Wareham Public Library.

The Wareham concert is one of three scheduled across Eastern Massachusetts. By the end of the concert series, Daskalakis and Yampolsky will have performed 10 sonatas Beethoven wrote for piano and violin.

“It’s a huge undertaking and a big challenge,” Daskalakis. “When you work with a fantastic piece of music you never feel it’s finished, you never feel that you’ve got it figured out. There are new depths to explore.”

The duo will also perform in Boston and Marion. Daskalakis and Yampolsky gave their debut recital together at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston and have performed across the globe as soloists and as a duo since 1998.

Much like the Music at Lands End series, the upcoming concerts will make classical music available to all residents.

“This music is very enjoyable for any audience,” Daskalakis said. “It’s very exciting and accessible with several layers of beauty and drama.”

Patty Wylde, the festival coordinator for Music from Land’s End, has known Daskalakis since the latter was child living in Wareham. The goal of the concert series is to offer exceptional classical music available to local audiences, she said.

“Daskalakis is incredibly popular and more and more people have heard her play with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra,” Wylde said. “Concertgoers see just how good her musicianship is and how polished her skills are.”

Daskalakis has performed on stages on Boston, Lisbon, Berlin and elsewhere.

The local concerts will take place on the following dates:

  • Thursday, March 5, 7:30 p.m. at the Goethe Institute, 170 Beacon St., Boston. Tickets will be sold at the door for $25 and $15.
  • Saturday, March 7, 5 p.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church, 124 Front St., Marion. The admission is a donation at the door.
