The Massachusetts Business Roundtable elected Michael P. Hogan, President & CEO of A.D. Makepeace Company, to serve in the new role of Vice Chair of the Board for a two-year term during its 33rd Annual Meeting held at State Street Corporation in Boston yesterday.

The Roundtable is a member-driven, public policy organization comprised of 70 top executives representing many of the state's largest employers. The Roundtable’s mission is to strengthen the state's long-term economic vitality with the goal of making Massachusetts a highly desirable place to do business.

Hogan was selected to lead A.D. Makepeace by the company's Board of Directors in 2004. He was the first non-family president to head the 150-year-old cranberry grower and real estate development company.

Hogan previously served as president and CEO of MassDevelopment, the state’s economic development authority, and as cabinet officer for two Massachusetts governors.

Several Roundtable members, including Hogan, served on Governor Patrick’s Economic Development Council which was established by the Legislature to develop the state’s new economic development strategy, "Choosing to Compete in the 21st Century."

Members continue to work with the Administration and legislative leaders to implement the major goals of the plan. Mr. Hogan was the designee of Associated Industries of Massachusetts, on whose board he also serves.

The Roundtable’s member companies employ more than 225,000 people in a wide array of industry sectors across the state.

Recent policy work includes leading the business community’s efforts to enhance Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education across the state and supporting and strengthening the state’s successful proposal for $50 million in Race-to-the-Top Early Learning education funding.

Roundtable members also elected Donna C. Cupelo, Region President of Verizon New England, to serve a second two-year term as Chair during its Annual Meeting.

Officers elected include C. Jeffrey Cook, Chairman of Cohen Kinne Valicenti & Cook in Pittsfield as Secretary and Irina Simmons, Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer of EMC as Treasurer.
