Adagio holds benefit for member's mother

Despite the day starting off with a series of mishaps, the fundraiser against cancer held by the Adagio Arts and Wellness Center on Saturday evening went off without a hitch.

“It was an absolutely magical performance,” organizer and studio owner Danielle Lopes said. “The day before was a nightmare, and I thought, ‘Oh, my goodness, how am I going to plan this?’ But it all fit together perfectly. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”

The event was a Christmas party at the First Congregational Church's Fellowship Hall to raise money for the Dana Farber institute in honor of a studio member’s mother, Marianne Azzara, who has been diagnosed with stage four colon cancer.

“With all they are going through, you never see the family without a smile on their faces,” Lopes said. “It is a really wonderful family.”

Lopes said there were about 150 people in attendance, and that she had never cooked so much spaghetti in her life – just enough, as it so happened, for every last person there.

“Down to the last spaghetti strand, we had enough food for everyone, and the show was flawless,” Lopes said.

Lopes did not know how much the event raised in total, but said that there was also a 50-50 raffle that raised an additional $250.
